johnnie was a chinese american boy who was adopted by an american family and was incarserated for hurting his adoptive mother.he is scared and abused by peers which led to internal problems making him feel unloved.
there was a lot more to johnnie if you went a tad further in the book and looked a bit deeper. this is kind of a short description for this boy. But the statement about him feeling unloved is very true
